MP backs biodiesel tax break campaign

Liberal Democrat MP Andrew George is backing a project to keep tax breaks for companies who produce biodiesel.

Producers converting cooking oil into biodiesel currently gain from a 20p differential however that is because of end next April.

The St Ives MP, who leads the Lib Dem Environment Team, has been fulfilling with the UK sustainable biodiesel alliance.

Mr George said "a number of small companies in Cornwall currently make cash from used cooking oil".

He added: "In order to have the ability to get this sort of industry going it does require simply a little bit of lift which is available in the type of tax foregone."

is a mix of standard diesel, rapeseed and vegetable oils.
